"Astounding clarity of sound and musicality"
The hi-fi listening space Sound Room A was designed for Reference Media showroom to provide proper acoustic conditions to allow the enjoyment of listening to music. For this, simply placing loudspeakers in any convenient location was not enough, the acoustics of the room must be well controlled, and the result was a surprise for the customers.
“The effects of the acoustic treatments are instantly noticeable upon walking into the Sound Room. Customers are often surprised by the sudden disappearance of echo from their own voices when walking through the door. The visual aspect often takes people by surprise. Many people are unaware that acoustic treatments of this extent are available and appropriate in a listening environment, rather than in a recording studio. The shapes and textures of the panels are visually interesting, and the room is lending more awareness that acoustic treatment isn’t the burlap-wrapped insulation that they are used to seeing in DIY scenarios. The clarity of sound and musicality are astounding, but speech intelligibility may be the most impressive aspect. With volumes at very high levels, two people can converse across the room without yelling. Vicoustic's treatment of the room allows the music to just be the music.“

Solutions recommended to control sound
Vicoustic proposed sound-absorbing panels, which control reflections by taking energy from them (Cinema Round Premium, Flexi Wave Ultra and VicPattern Ultra Wavewood panels), and sound diffusing panels, which control the reflections by spreading the energy evenly by the room, enlarging the listening position and creating a sense of spaciousness inside, while preventing the room from becoming too acoustically “dry” or “dead” (Multifuser DC2 and Multifuser Wood MKII 64, both two-dimensional diffusers).
For low-frequency acoustic treatment, Vicoustic has recommended using Super Bass Extreme Ultra, preferably located where the maximum pressure levels occur within the room, in the corners of the room.
This project was designed by the Vicoustic Project Team for Reference Media, in Bellingham, Washington, United States of America.
