Corporate Events Need Good Acoustics

The Penthouse Corporate Center in Manila, Philippines, is a multipurpose space that is meant to hold several types of events. The gatherings to be held in this Penthouse may range from corporate events and embassy receptions to private parties and small concerts.

An acoustic treatment designed and proposed by the Vicoustic Project team served as a reference for a solution implemented by CinePremium.

Three Rooms with Reflective Material

The Penthouse is divided into three spaces, that are defined as: two function halls and one ante room. All three spaces are built from very reflective construction materials, such as plasterboard, glass, ceramic tiles, etc. These room finishes combined with the very large volume of the Penthouse created a highly reverberant space, that was not ideal for its many different applications - some of which deeply rely on speech intelligibility, such as meetings and spoken word events.

Furthermore, in events where people get together to meet and talk, the room’s background noise would quickly build-up due to multiple conversations happening at the same time. As the background noise levels increased, people feel the need to speak louder, in order to understand each another (Lombard effect), which would, consequently, raise the background noise again. This noise build-up process was likely to cause discomfort to the room’s occupants.

Concept Project for Room Acoustics

Vicoustic's Project Team approached the room’s acoustics, in order to control sound reflections and the room’s Reverberation Time (RT). The goal was to contribute to a more suitable environment for this space to accommodate all the different types of events it is planned to hold. The team proposed the application of sound absorbing panels and clouds of the VMT line (Flat Panel VMT and ViCloud VMT), which control strong reflections and consequently the reverberation time within the room.
