Auditorium for orchestral music

Paolo Maggioni Auditorium received an acoustic treatment in order to 'make orchestral music play'.

The structural redevelopment of the auditorium, carried out by the Spaziotecnico design studio with the advice of Exhibo's acoustic engineers, become an opportunity to give the Aldo Moro school and the city of Cernusco sul Naviglio a perfect space for orchestral performances, according to an article published at Sistemi Integrati. This auditorium is located at the Aldo Moro first grade secondary school, part of the comprehensive Rita Levi Montalcini institute.

The stage, with the raised proscenium and the natural amphitheater made up of 65 sound-reflecting Polywood Diffuser panels folded into a tile shape. On the ceiling you can see an alternation of Waveline and Wavewood panels. Along the perimeter walls are the VicCeiling and VicWallPaper panels.

Solving auditorium acoustics

A redevelopment project with the skilful alternation of panels with different levels of sound absorption, has returned to the auditorium the original ability to transfer the sound from the stage to the last row of the audience.

The stalls, with alternating Waveline and Wavewood panels covering the ceiling and, in the outermost part of the ceiling and along the perimeter, the VicCeiling panels. Behind the control room located in the middle of the ceiling, you can glimpse the inclined glazing requested by the acoustic experts.

Acoustic panels for auditoriums

A combination of sound-absorbing and sound-reflecting panels allowed to overcome the physical constraints imposed by the building. At the height of the proscenium, there was a lowering that contained the air channels and which reduced the height of the ceiling from six to three meters, creating a bottleneck right where the sound passes from the stage to the audience. Engineers found a way to divert the air channels and raise this lowering by one meter, allowing to create a natural amphitheater with sound-reflecting curved panels intended to let the sound out of the stage and direct it towards the audience.

"After the redevelopment intervention, the auditorium hosted concerts: everyone, from the artists to the public, noticed the clear improvement in the acoustic performance of the hall", said Ermanno Zacchetti, Mayor of Cernusco sul Naviglio to Sistemi Integrati. Daniele Cassamagnaghi, Conductor of the school, confirms the words of the Mayor: "Now you can hear the sounds of all the instruments distinctly and this is important both for the audience and for the artists themselves".
