A hi-fi listening room design
A large listening room for high-end speakers demonstration needs to appeal to audiophile customers visually and guarantee an outstanding sound experience.
Vicoustic's Project Team designed a solution for Paulson's Audio & Video Demo Room, in Michigan, USA, that tries to produce a similar sound field of a domestic environment and simultaneously keep some acoustic properties under control. Dan Paulson couldn't be more happy with the results.

Acoustic design of the listening room

The first step on this project was to control early reflections from the room surfaces. Vicoustic proposed sound absorbing panels Wavewood Ultra Lite and Flexi Wave Ultra to control early reflections by taking energy from them. These were combined with sound diffusing panels Multifuser Wood MKII, which spread their energy and create a sense of spaciousness.
The second step taken on this project was to correct the sound perception at low frequencies. Vicoustic recommended the use of VicTotem Ultra VMT combined with an Extra Module due to the height of the room, to help control lower frequencies. These bass traps were placed in the corners of the room, where the maximum pressure levels occur.

In the third step, this room treatment has a lot more than meets the eye, featuring a solution hidden on top of the ceiling. Vicoustic recommended the application of two layers of ViCycle 60 over the ceiling grid and tiles. The green panels occupy a large portion of the room’s ceiling area to add thickness and mass to the ceiling to help control lower frequencies in the room.
