Designing for a better sound

Art School - Sound Music Dj Bordeaux transformed its studio/classroom into a state-of-the-art control room following a concept design provided by Vicoustic Project Team. The result amused DJ and teacher Edward "Artsy Moods", who works in the control room, both for the design and the acoustic result.

"There certainly is a 'wow factor' when you enter the room, and people are really inspired when they work in this atmosphere, like being in a futuristic spaceship! Right before putting the treatments on the wall we were playing with the incredibly bad flutter echo and huge reverb of the room; after treatment, perfection! Everything was on point", says Artsy Moods. The best part is that "the room isn’t dead sounding; it’s controlled and feels comfortable, not at all unnatural sounding".

From request to concept

The work the Vicoustic team made was "critical" to get things done properly. "I just gave the precise description of the rooms, walls, ceiling and floor to make the room in the room with the best solution available, then gave some aesthetic references. In a short amount of time the job was done perfectly. It was a super easy service to use, and really affordable by the way!"

Classroom and workshops

The classroom has been used regularly for mastering workshops. Artsy Moods gives recording, mixing and mastering classes 2 days a week in the studio, with up to 12 students each time. He also gives private lessons there, and renting it by the hour to past and present students for their personal projects.

"I think it’s the first time that there’s a mastering grade studio with high end gears where lessons are taught only daily basis, and that you can rent for yourself without an engineer. I’m proud of this because my goal is to empower my students to give them full control over their personal projects, as in the electronic music scene we’re all mostly geeks and the majority of our students at the Art School Bordeaux want to be autonomous artists/producers/DJs. Now they can finish their music at the highest possible standard without any sacrifices on quality, by themselves or with a little guidance, and that brings me a lot of smile to be able to be part of their journey."

Who is Artsy Moods?

After fifteen years producing music with various projects in France, fighting in studios with different goals and tastes, Edward followed his "digital mentor" Luca Petrolesi, from Studio DMI, learned the mixing and mastering skills he needed and conceived his personal musical project Artsy Moods. "He and his team helped me to understand what a DJ/Producer needs today, and that’s why I made this studio the way it is; You can come with your laptop and connect it to the whole setup with a simple USB! And enjoy the inspiring vibe signed Vicoustic ;)". Follow Artsy Moods on Instagram.
