Main goal: good sound and visual elegance

The studio “The Kingdom Room”, located in Johnstown, Colorado, is the home of film composer and music producer, Steve Rosen, and is the birthplace of ProPiano Series. With each change of residence, home studios like these present fresh challenges in making the most of a pre-existing space. To accomplish this, Steve Rosen initially requested a project design by Vicoustic's team of Acousticians.

His main goal was to have a well-balanced and accurate mix room without relying on room correction software, especially with a defined budget. His secondary goal was to have a creative and visually elegant space that invites collaboration.

“Beautiful designs” meet “acoustic effectiveness”

"Even though I have undertaken numerous DIY projects before in various studios, it was Vicoustic's product range that grabbed my attention. Their products not only boasted beautiful designs but also worked well in a myriad of configurations all the while maintaining their acoustic effectiveness. The initial design they presented to me sparked new ideas and ultimately led to the final build of my studio.”

Enters HDAcoustics

This led to a consult with HDAcoustics.net. Steve’s previous collaboration with HDAcoustics (known for designing high-end studios) afforded him the luxury of addressing a unique room anomaly that traditionally only new construction could fix. They used their expertise to tweak and enhance the overall vision of the studio and fix a low-end issue between 50-150Hz. Steve incorporated Vicoustic products into their proprietary recommendation. He also created his own customized bass traps strategically placed in the corners.

“This room is absolutely amazing”

“After I completed the initial build and ran my acoustic tests, I was pleasantly surprised…no room correction software was needed. This room is absolutely amazing and a joy to work in.

“I am thrilled to say the final hybrid results have more than met my two primary goals. The accuracy of the room is astounding, and as a film composer, music producer, and course creator, I am able to work faster and with greater precision by hearing width, height and depth like I never have before. And to my surprise, the frequency balance is consistent from the front to the back of the room, allowing me to make mix decisions even from the comfort of my couch. The room is so controlled but still has a natural and vibrant sound. I also never intended on using it for recording (as I've yet to build out my isolation booths), but Vicoustic's ceiling design and back wall treatment in the control room have yielded some of the best recordings (placed under the ceiling diffusers) I've ever achieved.

"This room is truly special and has reignited my love for music. It has become a place where creativity flourishes and clients (and I) want to linger. Thank you Vicoustic."
