Reverberation in large public spaces

The Dunkelsteiner Brau brewery, in Austria, included a large open space with a very high ceiling, which generated reverberation and echoes. Treating the brewery with acoustic clouds and panels improved significantly the acoustic environment within the space, reducing noise and enhancing overall sound quality.

Before installing any acoustic treatments, it was essential to conduct an acoustic assessment of the brewery. This involved measuring the existing noise levels and identifying any problem areas or sources of noise. This assessment helped determine the appropriate type and quantity of acoustic treatments required.

Based on the assessment, a comprehensive acoustic treatment plan was developed. Factors considered included the size of the brewery, the ceiling height, the existing construction materials, and the desired acoustic goals. The plan addressed both sound absorption and sound diffusion to create a balanced acoustic environment.

Acoustic clouds for ceilings

The acoustic clouds selected for this project, the ViCloud VMT 3D, are suspended panels installed on the ceiling to absorb sound reflections and reduce overall reverberation. These clouds are made of VicPET Wool, a sound-absorbing material developed from recycled plastic.

Since acoustic clouds are suspended from the ceiling using cables, it was important to ensure proper installation to achieve optimal acoustic performance and maintain safety.

Ceiling treated with acoustic panels

In addition to acoustic clouds, ceiling-mounted acoustic panels, the Flat Panel PET, were installed throughout the brewery. These panels are designed to absorb sound and minimize echo. They were strategically placed in areas where sound reflections are prominent or where excessive noise is generated.

In a brewery setting, it was important to consider factors beyond acoustics. The use of PET-based materials ensured that the chosen materials are resistant to moisture and can withstand the brewery's environment.

A pleasent and controlled soundscape

By implementing these steps, the brewery with a large roof is now be effectively treated with acoustic clouds and panels, creating a more pleasant and controlled soundscape for employees and visitors.
