Kevin Richardson (Backstreet Boys) Recording Studio

Designed as a control room for recording, mixing and mastering or broadcast, the singer and songwriter Kevin Richardson's Studio was developed by Vicoustic's Project Team. Following the success of the Backstreet Boys vocal group, the artist needed his own studio.

The main goal of the concept design was to allow to critically monitor the sound signal, assuring a clear and complete representation of the acoustic message without introducing any distortions that could compromise its perception.

Correcting reverberation, reflections and echoes

To achieve this, there are three main areas where acoustic treatment acted on: Reverberation Time (RT), Early Reflections, and Sound Field Anomalies (room modes, flutter echoes, etc.).

In order to control reflections, Vicoustic has proposed sound absorbing panels (Vicoustic’s Cinema Round Premium and Flexi Wave Ultra), which will control reflections by taking energy from them. The Flexi Wave Ultra will also prevent the room from becoming too acoustically “dry” or “dead” by reflection a portion of the high frequency sound energy back to the room.

For low-frequency acoustic treatment, our team recommended the use of Super Bass Extreme Ultra. Preferably, the bass traps should be located where the maximum pressure levels occur within the room, in the corners of the room.
