Large space with no more echoes

The Cafeteria and Saloon at Colegio Interamericano de Guatemala is a large space designed to serve multiple purposes and cater to the needs of the school community. With its expansive layout and high ceiling, it had echoes and reverberation issues that were not appropriate for an inviting and spacious environment for students, staff, and visitors.

In order to control sound reflections, one of the most notable features of the Cafeteria and Saloon is the acoustic treatment that has been implemented to ensure optimal sound quality and minimize noise levels, by Farei, a company specialized in offering advice, design, sale and installation of comprehensive solutions for professional and commercial audio, video, lighting and acoustic treatment, presesenting Vicoustic in Guatemala.

Suspended Baffles

Suspended Baffles PET made of recycled plastic have been used for acoustic treatment, contributing to both sustainability and functionality. These baffles, created from repurposed PET materials and enhanced by Vicoustic for superior acoustic performance, are suspended from the ceiling at strategic intervals throughout the space.

The high ceiling of the Cafeteria and Saloon enhances the overall sense of openness and airiness. Large windows allow ample natural light to flood the area, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere. The space is thoughtfully divided into different sections to accommodate various activities and functions. The cafeteria area is designed to provide a comfortable dining experience for students and staff. It features a range of seating options, including tables and bar-style seating. The layout encourages social interaction and fosters a sense of community within the school.

A stage for events

The saloon also offers a versatile space for events, performances, and gatherings. Equipped with a stage, audio-visual equipment, and flexible seating arrangements, it can host a wide range of activities such as concerts, plays, lectures, and presentations. The acoustic baffles contribute significantly to the acoustics of this space, ensuring clear sound projection and minimizing echoes.

The overall design of the Cafeteria and Saloon prioritizes functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. The use of recycled PET baffles not only improves the acoustic qualities of the space but also promotes environmental consciousness.

Ultra absorbers

In order to properly address the sound absorption of the space during events, a portion of the wall was also treated with Cinema Round Ultra VMT, a sound absorber specially developed for a good acoustic performance combining high-quality MDF with anti-scratch High-Pressure Laminate, and VicPet Wool - a material produced mainly from recycled plastic bottles enhanced for acoustic performance.

With this acoustic treatment, the Cafeteria and Saloon at Colegio Interamericano de Guatemala, which also treated several of its classrooms with sound absorbers, provide an inviting environment for dining, socializing, and hosting various events, ensuring optimal sound quality and sustainability.
