When Schlumberger - Austria's most storied sparkling wine house, founded in 1842, opened its new "House of Sparkling" production facility in Müllendorf, Burgenland, it needed more than world-class machinery. It needed factory acoustic treatment capable of protecting workplace comfort across an entire shift. UniVicoustic's Austrian partner, 4Audio, delivered the solution.

Built in two years on a 12-hectare site, the House of Sparkling is one of the most modern sparkling wine production facilities in Europe.

The Acoustic Challenge in Sparkling Wine Production

Sparkling wine production is loud. Bottling lines, conveyors, and disgorging equipment generate continuous mid-to-high frequency noise that builds up inside hard-surfaced industrial halls. Before treatment, the Schlumberger team reported classic symptoms of an untreated industrial space: elevated stress, the need to shout to be heard over machinery, and fatigue carried home every evening.

The brief to 4Audio was clear, control reverberation, lift workplace acoustic comfort, and treat noise at the source rather than only at the room boundary.

The Acoustic Treatment Strategy

Ceiling: Suspended Baffle PET MKII for Industrial Noise Control

Suspended Baffle PET MKII arrays distributed across the high ceilings bring overall sound pressure down across the production hall. As a suspended acoustic element, it presents twice the area of absorbing material exposed compared to a common acoustic panel, making it a very efficient solution to control noise build-up in big public or industrial spaces. The PET carries Euro Class B fire rating, A+ French VOC label, and OEKO-TEX 100 Class 1 certification, credentials that matter in food and beverage production.

Walls and Machinery: Flat Panel PET HD and Flat Panel PET 40mm

Flat Panel PET HD in white was applied to walls to control flutter echo at operator height. For the production machinery, Flat Panel PET 40mm in black was integrated directly onto the upper structures of selected machines, treating noise at the source with a thicker absorber tuned to the broader frequency range generated by bottling and conveyor equipment. Flat Panel PET HD performs primarily in medium and high frequencies (NRC 0.45 / αw 0.25), exactly the spectrum that dominates the operator zone.

Brand Wall: Custom Flat Panel PET HD with Schlumberger Eagle

A large-format wall reproduces the iconic Schlumberger eagle in metallic copper, built from custom Flat Panel PET HD panels with the logo industrially applied to the surface. The result is brand architecture and a high-performance absorber in a single wall, the Schlumberger identity made visible without sacrificing acoustic function.

The Result: Better Communication Less Fatigue

The team describes the change in plain terms: communication on the floor is dramatically easier, normal-voice conversation has replaced shouting, and operators end shifts noticeably less fatigued. For an industry built on precision and human attention to detail, that isn't a luxury, it's a quality-control upgrade.
